Construction : A Guillaumian Perspective
Abstract
Echoing Alvaro Arroyo's interest in 'fundamental constructions' (Arroyo 2020), this article explores the use of the concept of construction in Gustave Guillaume's work to build a definition specific to the psychomechanics of language. It will be shown that this definition differs radically from the meaning commonly attributed to the word 'construction' in linguistics, particularly in 'construction grammars'. Given the limited contemporary audience for this school of linguistics, this text also aims to serve as an introduction to reading Guillaume's works.
