The cantigas of Pero Gonçalvez de Portocarreiro
Abstract
This article is a study of the songbook of Pero Gonçalvez de Portocarreiro, a troubadour of Portuguese origin who lived around the second half of the thirteenth century. The manuscript tradition has transmitted to us only four compositions of his authorship, all of them belonging to the genre of amigo, which are characterised by their singularity with respect to the presence of concrete lexicon, the symbolism derived from it and its interpretation. Thus, in addition to the textual fixation of the cantigas, this work focuses mainly on the complete analysis of the songbook from a literary and rhetorical point of view.
