Abstract

It is well-known that in XVIII a type of literature flourished in which gallantry and eroticism were very common, albeit at least apparently, the iron censorship of the Inquisition was present looking after the manners of free citizens. And in this ambiguous dichotomy found in noble society few writers participated in the way in which Giambattista Casti, a Roman abbot and suggestive writer of Novelle galanti did, addressing them to the ‘chaste’ ladies who admired them. Here there is an analysis of verse stories, L’incantesimo, in which a suggestive language helped by the sense of tact, will try to convert a young female body into a mare, although El encantamiento –as translated in a delightful unknown version, which is kept in the National Library of Madrid– does not take place.
