Abstract

The episode from Tristan and Iseut’s legend known as “The Cave of Lovers”, written by Thomas, must be reconstructed with Brother Robert’s narrative of the Tristrams Saga. Inside “The Cave of Lovers”, a retreat arranged by Tristan not to forget Iseut, who has returned to King Mark’s side, Tristan speaks to, caresses and kisses the statue representing her. However, it is the smell that he inhales –thanks to a simple mechanical trick– what keeps in the lover’s mind and heart the memory of the beautiful blonde queen. In this way, Tristan succeeds in not consummating his marriage to Iseut of the White Hands.
