Blanca de Laurac sung by Peire Vidal: a review of the senhal «Bells Arquiers de Laurac» (BdT 364,27)
Abstract
This article proposes a scholarly review of the identification of the senhal “Bells Arquiers de Laurac” with Blanca de Laurac, as cited in the canso-sirventes Mos cors s’alegr’e s’esjau by the Toulouse troubadour Peire Vidal (BdT 364,27, v. 15). The first part addresses certain formal issues regarding the troubadour senhal and presents a list of attributions of specific senhals to historical female figures. Subsequently, a toponymic analysis of BdT 364,27 is provided, alongside a historiographical examination of the house of Laurac, with the aim of situating Blanca within a broader historical context.
