The TragicomThe Tragicomic Texture in Lope’s Dramas Inspired by Giraldi Cinzio’s Novelle
Abstract
In this paper I will focus on the tragicomic dimension in Lope’s dramatic corpus inspired by Giraldi’s novelle. The purpose is to examine the relevance of Giraldi Cinzio’s tragic theory for the development in Lope of a proposal that refuses the traditional neo-Aristotelian taxonomy and that reshapes the architecture of the genres by sponsoring new dramatic formulas, such as the tragedy with a happy ending.
