The Dit de Merlin Mellot between traditional story and edifying rewriting

Abstract

The brief story known as Merlin Mellot has been given little attention: it can be said that no specific work has been dedicated to it. Instead it is an interesting text both as a gender identification - since it, which oscillates between fabliau and dit, anticipates the modern developments of the novel - both in the aspect of narrative material. Which relates to a narrative path of perhaps ancient tradition, but certainly medieval and Renaissance success until the modern age, the story known to folklorists under the indication The Fisherman and His Wife.
