The Voyage en Orient by Gérard de Nerval how to question the Eurocentric perspective
Abstract
In his Voyage en Orient, Nerval attempts to call into question the colonial perspective and the main European prejudices and topics concerning Oriental customs, approaching the perspective of the Other, and rejecting the conception of the fixed structure of our identities. The identity fluidity elaborated in his travel book is a means of conceiving the necessary distance from the dominant discourses that constitute the framework of our thinking and of the images of ourselves and of others. The present work tries to emphasize the proximity of this vision to the thought of Gadamer on the intercultural dialogue in which we would be able to rectify our own positioning and reconstruct our own image, and the conception of the experience of others in Bernhard's phenomenology Waldenfels. This creative experience is what allows us to renew our own intellectual foundations and our perception of the world.Downloads
