Literary Topography: Madrid, Lisbon and Barcelona in the 19th Century Novel
Abstract
In this research we are going to analyze the configuration of urban poetry on the basis of three Iberian cities: Madrid, Lisbon and Barcelona, which became essential areas for creating novels and the discourse of contemporaneousness. We will proceed by reading three significant novels of the 19th century: Fortunata y Jacinta, by Benito Pérez Galdós; Os Maias, by José Maria Eça de Queirós and La febre d’or, by Narcís Oller.
