The function of prefaces in the assay: six examples from the 20th century’s Catalan literature
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to contribute to the debate on the aesthetic specificity of the assay and its role in society from the general level of awareness expressed by six Catalan authors from the twentieth century in the prologues they wrote to six different works (Josep Carner and Riba, John Carpenter, Josep Maria Espinàs, Henry and Martin Soria Domínguez). To achieve this, we follow the conceptual framework proposed by Genette (1987) for the analysis of paratextual elements and, in particular, the ones known as authorial prefaces.Downloads
