The syntactic behaviour of possessives in the Romance languages
Abstract
Possessives in the Romance languages show a rather complex behaviour, turning out quite different when comparing the different languages. Our goal is to follow a generative approach of the Possessive Phrase (POSSP) and its possible combinations with other functional projections of the Noun Cluster (namely demonstratives and articles), where the different positions of possessives, i.e. prenominal and postnominal positions are interpreted as cases of rising or lack of movement respectively. Therefore a certain typology of possessives is required.Downloads
