Abstract

In this paper we will take care of a recent case of language contact: the Romanian language spoken in Madrid and its metropolitan area, as a consequence of the intense migration from Romania to this particular region of Spain, during the first years of the 21st century. We aim to show the current state of the contact process through the speakers’ experiences. On one hand, we will analyze the contexts in which Romanian immigrants keep using their language: free time, family, work. On the other hand, we want to check the speakers’ attitudes, in order to know if we are facing language shift or language maintenance.
