A risky profession. Journalist and self-security in violent societies
Abstract
Freedom of speech, one of the basic human rights to practice journalism, is constantly menaced in Latin-American societies, especially in Mexico. Murders, attacks, abductions, impunity, corruption, organized crime… evidence the fragility of Latin-American states and threat the lives of hundreds of journalists and professionals in this field. This article is meant to cover the transformation of the media living under this threat and the response given by the Mexican state in order to reverse this distressing situation.
