Multidisciplinary approach of tuberculosis infection in a lidia cattle farm
Abstract
Tuberculosis is currently one of the most relevant diseases. Its control rests on both Animal Health and Public Health, since it is a zoonosis. It is a notifiable disease in cattle and it is subjected to official eradication campaigns from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA). Lidia breed is the bovine breed that shows more problems when it comes to eradicating the disease, due to its extensive system of exploitation and its difficult handling, with a prevalence ten times higher than the dairy cattle breeds. This paper describes the most important actions to be carried out in a positive lidia cattle herd, from a multidisciplinary point of view, addressing the health, management and feeding of animals, with the aim of controlling the infection and facilitating its eradication in the shortest possible time, allowing the maintenance of livestock without losing the genetics of the herd and preventing a future reinfection.Downloads
