Use of ketamine in refractory status epilepticus in a beagle
Abstract
Status epilepticus (ES) is the most important complication in patients diagnosed with epilepsy. Presenting the clinic case of a 15-months-old female beagle treated with imepitoin with refractory epileptic status secondary to an idiopathic inflammatory process. The initial treatment with diacepam was unsuccessful due to the imepitoin treatment; the use of fenobarbital was also insufficient. The control of the ES was achieved by propofol initially; and by ketamine afterwards. The definitive control of the crisis with ketamine supports its efficacy in the control of refractory status epilepticus.
