Abstract
The present article analyzes the maintenance of a one-party state in China after almost thirty years of economic and political reforms. It is underlined how the reformist strategy employed by the communist authorities has been always oriented to keep their monopoly on power in a dynamic context. Measures such as the transition from totalitarism to authoritarism, the growing institutionalization of political power, the establishment of formal mechanisms for an orderly transition of power a regulated transition at the apex of the system, the development of the judicial system, and the changes in the party recruitment policy are interpreted from this perspective.Downloads
