El modelo étnico búlgaro: los retos de la etnicidad en el proceso de la democratización y la integración de Bulgaria a la Unión Europea
Abstract
The article studies those features of Bulgarian ethnic model which have contributed to avoid destructive ethnic tensions in the social transformation process initiated at the end of 80s-beginning of the 90. The main hypothesis are as follows: historical hostilities are not causally related to the violet conflict; demographic factors and their political projections play an important role in ethnic relations; peaceful ethnic co-existence is possible under certain legal regulations and existence of cultural mechanisms; it is important not to charge ethnic identity of the majority in order to keep the non-violent character of the transition period, and last but not least, ethnic consolidation and mobilization do not generate violent disputes if a consensus on the basic values exists among ethnic elites.Downloads
