Reunificación alemana: aproximación a las consecuencias económicas y sociales para los Länder Orientales

Abstract

The German unification still continues to be a very current issue, partly due to the economic difficulties in digesting its effects –that partially explain the problems that Germany is facing today– and, partly, because it acted as a kind of precedent for other transition economies. Despite they tried to show it as a small–scope process, the truth is that the costs and duration of the German unification have overflown the most pessimistic foresights, and there is still a huge internal gap in GDP, employment and productivity. Likewise, the foresights for the next years are not very hopeful.
