Environmental perception of the use of wastewater from farmers of the Mezquital Valley, Hidalgo
Abstract
Currently, due to water scarcity, the use of treated wastewater is being promoted, however, it warns about the risks of its use in agriculture without prior treatment. In Mexico, the Mezquital Valley region, Hidalgo has more than a century dedicated to agriculture with a wastewater irrigation system. The objective of this article was to know the environmental perception of the farmer of the Mezquital Valley regarding the use of wastewater and environment care. Twenty-five interview were carried out in nine municipalities of the region, which were analyzed with the axial coding method and the use of the Atlas.ti software. It was concluded that most farmers do not associate their agricultural activity with environmental damage.
