The climate refugee
Abstract
Over the years, the number of those known as "climate refugees" has only increased in an uncontrolled way, and scientists warn that it will continue to do so, until reaching numbers as alarming as 200 million by the year 2050. Even though several years have passed since the first time they were heard of, and that today it is a problem that cannot be denied, currently they still do not have any legal framework that protects and recognizes them. However, certain countries are beginning to make history with some individual laws, or sentences that can mark a before and after. This work focuses on analysing the reason for this legal vacuum, as well as what are the causes that lead that these people have to move from their homes, and all the consequences that this carry, such as commit a crime or ending up in the hands of terrorist groups. We will review which are the most affected countries, and which ones contribute the most, either directly or indirectly, to these displacements, as well as the numbers over time, and we will analyse the actual progress of some countries related to the matter in hand.
