Economic Policy and Environmental, an approximation
Abstract
This paper addresses the controversial issue of consumption, a well-known practice that is part of society and, in turn, makes up it. To do this, it makes an approach to it through a historical journey from the Fordist production model, also contemplating its successor; the post-Fordist model, to finally stop in its current form, contemplating its variants. Likewise, it addresses the various adverse effects derived from this practice on daily life and the environment, proposing and emphasizing the need for a sustainable alternative; Fair Trade. In turn, the essay includes a case study on the Social Market of Madrid, a space in which the principles of the Social Solidarity Economy and Fair Trade are applied, in order to determine if it is indeed a feasible alternative to the current model of production and marketing, which –is based on, and– perpetuates inequality and relations of domination. All this is done from the socio-environmental perspective, advocating for environmental education and fair and equitable socioeconomic relations.
