New Development Model for the Mining Regions of Teruel, based on the Carbon Aid Plans
Abstract
Successive restructuring plans for the coal mining industry initiated in the mid-1980s did not have the expected results. The majority of the aid, directed from a purely economic point of view, was used to cover operating costs, as well as early retirement and redundancy payments. Thus, the reactivation of the mining basins did not produce enough economic alternatives to assume a real alternative to coal. Thus, in the current Closing Plan 2013-2018, the mining basins of Teruel face a future as black as coal, since if there is no economic alternative the territory's destiny is doomed.Downloads
