Renan y el dilema francés de la nación
Abstract
The paper analyses the Renan’s concept of nation as it was developed in his famous lecture in 1882, relating his thought with the previous French conceptions that examined the issue with opposed models: the Emmanuel Sieyès and Joseph de Maistre standpoints. Regarding this precedent, the paper considers the French philologist definition through the concepts of solidarity and moral consciousness, central attributes of nation, which avoid other deterministic features of the contemporary analysis. Finally, the paper analyses the present situation of the Renan’s concept considering it in its sociological aspect as an alternative attempt to the modern conceptual dichotomy of community and society.Downloads
