A história da democracia ainda não começou” no Brasil, afirmava o jurista Raymundo Faoro no início da década de 2000
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to map, in some texts by Raymundo Faoro published weekly in the years of 2000 e 2001 in the media, his discussion on democracy and citizenship in Brazil, amid a full intellectual and political debate on the potentialities or not of being emerging the conditions for democracy as well as citizenship to come into effect. He emphasized that it was not possible to suppose any advance toward the citizenship condition if a democratic state of right did not come into force in the country. Citizenship and democracy are part of the same process, according to him. The destruction of the State of exception in Brazil, led several social forces to reflect upon the possibilities or not of emerging a substantive citizenship condition. That is why he believes that the democratic institutionalization should be thought as one of the main supports for the construction of a public space.Downloads
