Abstract
The main goal of this brief paper is to make concrete the etymology of the Polish word kaczka ‘duck’, which interpretation in the last Polish etymological dictionary seems to be far from clear. Etymological parallels established in other languages, and about the same term, favor the hypothesis that *kača, *kačka ‘duck’ come from a verbal form *(s)kak-ati, *(s)kač-iti ‘to jump’.Downloads
