Abstract

Until the half of XII century the meaning of mitqāl-mizcal was equal to dīnār, an andalusí gold coin. At the end of the XII century and the beginnings of the XIII century, in the eastern or in the oriental castilian Extremadura or border, (Sigüenza diocese), the words mitqāl-mizcal are translated into Romance as mencalmencallo, working as sueldo, money of account of 12 coins. The study shows the true of these afirmation.
