Abstract

The post office of Cartagena de Indias, created in 1765 as part of the Bourbon postal reform, was conceived as a document-producing institution for the circulation of Spanish-American postal communication. This paper examines the genesis of the documentation produced by this post office, approaching the different stages of elaboration of its documents, both in the actio and in the conscriptio. This research reveals how the post office of Cartagena de Indias had a standardised and rational document production procedure, in line with the bureaucratic needs of the time.
