Abstract

The Mirabal lineage belongs to the manor elite of Jerez de la Frontera since the late Middle Ages. But it is one of the great unknown and proof of it is the lack of studies about this family. Unlike the cases of other lineages that are attested in other more well-known funds, Mirabal family is diluted at the end of the Middle Ages in the documentation. This despite the fact that this family will receive the title of Marquis of Mirabal and Fuente Bermeja by Felipe V in 1722. This title of nobility placed itself in the first line of the history and politics of the kingdom.

Therefore, the aim of this paper is to make known the documentary of the Marquesado de Mirabal collection. The documentation is located in the Archivo Municipal de Jerez de la Frontera, identified as AMJF-AMMM. The chronology studies included the temporal space between 1461 and 1599. The fund enters this archive thanks to the donation of the family. Once receives, it was adapted into a standardized installation unit, The cataloguing is based on the ISAD-G standards, at the same time that the classification of the Real Chancilleria of Granada was incorporated. The result of all is a table of classification of the full fund, although in this paper we present the part referring to the limited dates.

The value of this paper lies in the absolute originality of the documentation we offer. This multiplies the possibilities of research on the Mirabal lineage. This will enrich the knowledge of the noble elites that make up the government and power at the end of the Middle Ages and Modern Earle Age in the Kingdom of Seville.
