The (new) moonlighting: between survival and self-realization at work. A look from the European experience
Abstract
Multiple jobholding is an emerging labour market phenomenon. While there is growing literature on the profiles and motivations of those who engage in this practice, few studies take a qualitative approach. This article aims to address this gap by analysing the way in which 101 workers, interviewed in five European countries, frame their condition as moonlighters. Our study provides evidence of the great diversity and complexity of the motivations and of their association with some recent trends in the labour market.
