Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze the potential competitive advantages that the executives of firms associate with the adoption of proactive environmental strategies. The analysis focuses on a sample of industrial firms located in the Autonomous Region of Aragón. The most relevant results indicate that the market advantages are the ones that encourage firms to go beyond the mere fulfilment of the environmental legislation. Besides, there are other competitive advantages related to the efficiency of the firms that stimulate the exe- cutives to advance even inside the most advanced strategic environmental levels. On the other hand, advantages offered by governments do not really stimulate progress towards proactive environmental strategies.Downloads
