MLQ application to HR Trainers: A descriptive study

Abstract

A descriptive study is presented in which a group of HR Trainers self-assess their leadership. The 12 MLQ (Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire) scales were administered to 41 HR Trainers in Barcelona. Results obtained in each scale were analyzed and differences regarding gender, Trainer type (Internal- External) and years of experience as a Trainer, too. Results show that Trainers assess themselves as transactional and transformational emphasizing in middle levels of both leadership types in Internal Trainers and transactional high levels in External Trainers. No important differences regarding Trainers’ gender were found. Trainers with more years of experience accumulate more cases of transformational leadership. Internal Trainers are concentrated in middle levels of extra effort. Effectiveness and satisfaction obtain similar scores for both types of Trainers.
