Abstract

The preservation of Mediterranean environments implies an exhaustive knowledge of flora of the territory, which constitutes the basis of the ecosystems. A survey on the vascular flora of Monfragüe National Park and Area of Influence (nearly 150.000 Ha) is examined in this paper. As a result of our analysis 1404 taxa of vascular plants are catalogued, emphasizing the endemisms for the Monfragüe area. The taxa belong to 112 families. The most species are Poaceae, Fabaceae and Asteraceae, which despite of being just 2.7% of the families include 31.7% of the taxa in the catalogue. Endangered species are pointed out, following the Government of Extremadura’s criteria for plant conservation. We showed the representativeness from this territory at floristic level and consequently the importance of its conservation, since it presents 62.3% of the vascular flora of Extremadura Region.
