Abstract

Lazzo, G. & Gallardo, T. 2004. Study on morphology and reproductive structures of Mastocarpus stellatus (Stackhouse) Guiry (Gigartinales, Rhodophyta) from the Iberian Peninsula coasts. Bot. Complut. 28: 21-26. Mastocarpus stellatus (Stackhouse) Guiry is a common seaweed at the Atlantic coasts of Iberian Peninsula. Gametophytes and sporophytes are present throughout the year round in dense eulittoral populations; gametophytes are fertil from June to January, with the greatest development of thalli in August. Sporophytes have been found fertile only in February, March, July and October. Carpogonial branch and zigote development are the typical for order Gigartinales.
