Space and Gender
Abstract
The association of the terms “space and gender” hypothesizes that there is a “space” for males and another one for females. But the intention of this article is far from supporting the construction of spatial stereotypes for men and women. What interests us is to emphasize the dichotomy and dialectic between two ways of thinking and acting from a particular approach that is the concept of the space. First, we will examine the Western scientific rationality imbued with the idea of domain that creates the logic of space. Its opposite is the logic of action that is contextual and interpretive, nonformal, non-visual and articulated by the lived and qualitative temporality. We will associate these logics with the dwelling and also with the city and, to finish up, we will make some considerations on urban planning from the point of view of the use of the city by women.Downloads
