Abstract

This paper analyzes the depiction of a slum in the novel Texaco by the writer Patrick Chamoiseau, from Martinique island. The textual proposal and the reflections of Chamoiseau about evolution, history and possible hopeful remodelling of the neighbourhood are associated in this paper with the theories drawn up by Édouard Glissant, through resemantized concepts like “place”, “relation” or “land”.
