Sobre la condición social de los maestros de obras moros aragoneses
Abstract
In medieval Spain Mudéjar architecture was a highly efficient building system, competing with western European Romanesque and Gothic architecture. This architecture, in which the Al-Andalus (Andalusian) artistic tradition survives, was likewise the work of Moorish masons, who constitute the real base of the Mudéjar system. In Aragon the building activity of Moorish masons is well known through documents and inscriptions. Mahoma Rami, who at the beginning of the 15th century worked for the aragonese Pope Benedict XIII in the Seo (Cathedral) of Zaragoza and in the church of San Pedro Mártir, Calatayud, is a good example both of the professional skills and the social esteem enjoyed by these masons.Downloads
