The recent contribution of small industrial cities to the territorial structuring and polycentric system of the Valencian Community
Abstract
The industrial decentralization of the Valencian Community has influenced the expansion of urbanization and industry in the configuration of a polycentric urban system. The interest in the analysis of small industrial cities has been to show if they are a current part of this expansion, as well as the degree of contribution to this system, beyond medium and large cities. Based on a multivariate quantitative analysis using demographic, economic and labour data, as well as an analysis through cartography and covariance techniques, it is shown how these cities currently present a greater dynamism. Even so, there is little foresight of incorporating new small industrial cities in the near future, despite the influence exerted by the different Functional Urban Areas and industrial districts and clusters. Finally, the consolidation of these cities as nodes of cohesion and territorial structuring is noted.
