Abstract

It is essential to know the size and characteristics of a country’s population in order to carry out the necessary economic and infrastructural planning. Thus, the infrastructures required by a predominantly school-age population will differ considerably to those required by a largely elderly one. Variations in the population of a country are brought about by the combined action of natural movements, that is, the balance between births and deaths (population growth) and migratory movements, the balance between emigrants and immigrants, which deducted from or added to population growth enables us to determine the real growth of the population. All of these elements form the cornerstone of this study and will be used as a basis for developing a typology (cluster) at provincial level by combining all the variables.
