Abstract

This article attempts to relate post-dramatic theatre with some ideas presented by Friedrich Nietzsche in his first important work, The Origin of Tragedy. Specifically, similarities are sought in the concept of the performative and in an essential aspect of the Nietzschean tragedy, physical pain. The aim is not to establish a direct line between Nietzsche and the latest theatre trends, but rather to draw attention on one of the most recent consequences of the aesthetic rupture he proposed.
