Abstract
This paper offers a critical analysis of the book How to Comprehend Humans?, written by Pablo Rodríguez
Palenzuela, which aims to explain the evolution of the human mind and behavior. More specifically, the paper discusses
four issues addressed in the book that have far-reaching implications for the biological domain: the biological
foundations of behavior, the adoption of the notion of innateness, the rejection of the traditional opposition between
nature and nurture, and the assumption that genes are the raw material of evolution. The paper shows that the book
reflects a gene-centered perspective that does not help recognize the complexity of organisms.
