Abstract

The critical note on «¿Cómo entender a los humanos?», published in this issue, discusses four aspects of the book: the biological foundations of behavior, the notion of innateness, the rejection of the nature-nurture opposition, and the claim that genes are the raw material of evolution. This reply argues that the critique suffers from two serious limitations. First, an empirical omission: it does not address the massive evidence provided by twin studies, adoption studies, and genome-wide association studies on the heritability of human psychological traits. Second, a distorted representation of the current debate on the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis, presented as a displacing consensus when it is in fact a research program with qualified critics within evolutionary biology itself.
