Abstract
The question of whether art provides knowledge is not a new one, but goes back to the beginning and is one of the oldest reflections of art theory. Notwithstanding, it has become an important topic in contemporary aesthetic debates, since the issue of the value of art has much to do with the answer we give to this question. In this work, we seek to distinguish between two questions: the epistemic one (can art provide knowledge?) and the aesthetic one (if art provides knowledge, does that determine in any way its aesthetic value?). We also seek to expose the most important cognitivist and anticognitivist arguments, of both the anglo-saxon and the continental thinkers.Format
