La Asociación Euro-Mediterránea en peligro
Abstract
From the EU perspective the poor provisional balance of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (EMP) shows the necessity to reformulate the relations with its Southern and Eastern Mediterranean neighbours. The gap in security, economic and political terms is more and more serious. In this framework, Brussels is developing a new policy, the Wider Europe Neighbourhood, trying to renovate its approach to this underdeveloped and unstable zone. The option, anyway, it is not to create new schemes but to implement the EMP, as the most appropriate instrument to create a common space of peace and prosperity. The key is to activate the political will of member States to assume the consequences of real promotion of democratic values in the region, real free trade in the region and emergence of a strong civil society.
