La visión de Brasil sobre la cooperación internacional
Abstract
The Director of the Agency for Brazilian Cooperation (ABC) presents his country´s vision on international cooperation. This vision has evolved throughout recent history. Initially the cooperation received from donor countries and from international organizations engendered the creation of Brazilian instutions of excellence. In this context of progressive capacitation, Brazil started sharing its successful experiences with other developing countries, an activity that has become a priority to ABC (above all, as an efficient tool to compensate the developmental asymmetries of Brazil´s neighbours). Besides South America, countries from Central America, the Caribbean and Africa also deserve Brazil´s interest for cooperation. The South-South cooperation as conducted by Brazil is a non-profit activity, dissociated from commercial or hegemonic interests, and therefore stands as a relevant instrument of Brazilian foreign policy. The main areas in which Brazil offers cooperation include professional training, education, health, agriculture, renewable energy, data systems, social inclusion. Brazil´s international success in technical cooperation can also be measured by the fact that, of late, a growing number of traditional donor countries and multilateral organizations have shown interest to work jointly with Brazil in trilateral cooperation ventures in Africa and Latin America.
