Strategic priorities in Spanish development aid and their relation to foreign trade during the period 1997-2016
Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the geographical and sectoral distribution of Spanish development aid and examines the complementarity of trade policy with cooperation policy in recent decades. The methodology consists of examining foreign aid data and estimating a gravity model to analyse the relationship between Spain's bilateral exports with developing countries and bilateral aid. The results indicate that increases in aid have strengthened trade relations with priority countries.
