The Catholic Church on the Argentine-Bolivian border at the 20th century beginning: Religious and socio-political implications in the La Quiaca city (Jujuy-Argentina)
Abstract
This article analyses the influence of the Catholic Church on the religious, social, and political life of a frontier town in the province of Jujuy, La Quiaca, in the context of the formation and consolidation of state power in Argentina. Within a period that extends from the founding of La Quiaca (1907) to the first three decades of the 20th century, we propose to examine the most prominent features of the mark left by the important activity of the Catholic Church in this frontier space that tensioned the main postulates of the nineteenth-century liberal programme.
