Abstract

There were three guild merchants formally founded in New Spain, one in Mexico City in 1592 and those in Veracruz and Guadalajara in 1795. Nevertheless, these were not the only regions that their trade and commerce developed and tried to establish guild merchants. At least, two other places made their effort: Puebla, that practically obtained it in 1821, with the reserved that it lacked the sanction of a government authority, and Yucatan that never had a guild merchant in spite of their perseverance. This article deals with their story.
