La resistencia del Cabildo de Quito a la entrada del regidor Sebastián Salcedo en 1744 y algunas notas sobre su actuación hasta 1775
Abstract
One of the examples that best illustrates the power struggle within the Quito city council in the 1730s and 1740s occurred when Sebastian Salcedo tried to replace his brother Manuel as councillor. The rival group resisted his acceptance as much as they could, first by opposing his induction in 1744, and then, when the Council of the Indies failed to confirm his title, by attempting to expel him in 1749 and 1753. Despite this tenacious opposition, Sebastian Salcedo remained in the city council until at least 1774, and he succeeded in occupying the posts of mayor and dean of councillors, even though he never managed to get his title as councillor confirmed.Downloads
