Abstract

The region known as «Región Platina» was taken over by Europeans rather late in comparison to other areas in South America, as in the case of the Peruvian Andes. The occupation of Región Platina underwent a unique process due to several factors such as: the distance from the power centers in the Vice Kingdom of Peru, the lack of economic and human resources needed to explore and conquer, and above all, the lack of immediate economic rewards.
