Environmental impact in the use of electric vehicle batteries in Spain
Abstract
During the investigation into the environmental impacts of electric vehicle batteries in Spain, the laws and regulations related to their reuse, recycling, and final disposal were reviewed. Existing projects were also analyzed to prevent negative impacts on the environment and living organisms. Reusing batteries can reduce their environmental impact, but efficient methods are required to ensure long-term sustainable reuse. Battery recycling is crucial for reducing environmental impact and managing valuable and toxic materials properly. With the growing electric vehicle market, an increased demand for recycling is expected, therefore it is necessary to invest in recycling facilities for a safe and sustainable management of batteries, maximizing material recovery and minimizing environmental impact. In the future, challenges such as recycling-oriented design, logistics infrastructure, battery lifespan and autonomy, traceability in manufacturing, and addressing these challenges on a large scale will be encountered.
